Quotations by Philosophers

This section of EpistemeLinks provides quotations pages by philosophers on a wide range of topics. You can search for quotes by author or by topic area. The results will first display any links to web pages with quotations by that author or in that topic area—some of these pages have several dozen or more quotes each!

In addition, there are over 500 quotations in the EL database, and over half of these have been categorized by one or more topic areas (including humorous quotes and a growing list of philosophy's "greatest hits", i.e., famous quotations). Please note that at this time only quotations from philosophers indexed at EL are being included.

If you would like to recommend a quotation, please send me an email at elcadmin at epistemelinks.com with the name of the philosopher, the quote, and the original source (the more detail the better). Quotations that represent the thinkers core positions are strongly preferred, as are those that concisely state an important viewpoint on a particular philosophical question. Clarity is critical–if I don't understand what is being said, the quote will not be included. However, humorous and other quotations will also being considered.
